The brief
Open air means short build times, changing bands and a signal path that has to cover the full stage width and reach front of house in the audience area. The lighting system had to be operable by several guest designers in a single day without touching the network or the patch.
Equipment used
- grandMA3 as main console, second console in tracking backup
- Luminex GigaCore show network with separate VLANs for console, nodes and media
- Luminex LumiNode for DMX distribution on stage, towers and FOH
- Fibre run between stage and control position, copper only for short spurs
- StageSmarts distribution for stage and tower positions
- Motorola handhelds for stage, FOH and rigging
Outcome
The lighting system ran through the whole event day without a failure. Guest designers used the existing patch for their shows, and changeovers between acts needed no work on network or distribution.
